Bayley's Birthday Cake

Hubby's Corner
It was only a matter of time before I decided to infiltrate my wife’s blog, and that time has arrived.

We had a Groupon for W.O.W Cakes.  We were excited about getting a special cake for our special girl.  However, the weekend of February 26th is the mother of all cake weekends because they were booked when we called to order.  Enter Hubby and his crazy steamrolling ideas.

I wanted to document our effort so that success or complete failure (place your bets now) could be shared.  The basic idea is to bake a sheet cake that contains a barn, silo, horse corral, pig pin, watering hole, and roads.  Everything, with the exception of the animals and fencing, will be edible.  A picture of the supplies I purchased is below.

Wednesday night before the party I wanted to do a trial run for the barn and silo.  My plan was to make mini loafs to shape the barn, and muffins to create the silo.  I decided trying to use icing to make the barn red and any accents would be too much frosting.  Instead I have elected to make the barn with a red velvet recipe so that I only have to use icing on the accents.  Here is a picture of the barn and silo trials while I was waiting for them to cool.

Once they cooled I stacked the muffins up on top of each other for the silo, and with a little help from some icing I think it will work.

For the barn I cut one loaf smaller and then gutted the second on to fit on top of it, but as you can tell it doesn’t look much like a barn.  I will try again tomorrow night.  Anyone want some red velvet cake?
